Are you kinky or interested in alternative lifestyles and relationships? You are not alone. Come and find out more at New Zealand’s alternative lifestyle conference - Southern Exposure 2008.
November 2006 saw the first Southern Exposure Conference held in Christchurch. It was an outstanding success with 100 delegates and a full programme of 21 workshops from an impressive lineup of top international and local presenters. Based on that success the organisers decided to stage further conferences every two years.
This year’s conference promises to be even bigger and better than 2006. It will be held at the same professional conference venue as before, and this time there is an equally impressive lineup of presenters and workshops covering a wide range of topics of interest to the BDSM and alternative lifestyle communities.
Southern Exposure welcomes the return of Midori. Her presentation style is engaging, her manner captivating and the content compelling. Well known as an author, she is also a prominent educator, supporter of alternative sexual expression and a consummate performance artist.
Joining her this year are Sarah Sloane, a polyamorous kinkster, educator and performer from the Washington, DC area; Scott Smith, a leading exponent of hard edged BDSM play, educator and prominent in the US Leather scene; and Kumi, fetish model, performer and educator.
We also welcome the return of Mark from DV8 House in Sydney and his partner Aleni. Both will be presenting workshops at Southern Exposure.
All six of our international presenters will be performing at the Christchurch Fetish Ball, held the same weekend as Southern Exposure. Southern Exposure delegates get free admission to the Ball as part of the conference package. This represents outstanding value because Fetish Ball tickets are $55-$65 alone!
Local presenters will cover topics directly of concern to our New Zealand community. We have two University law lecturers who will present workshops. One is on New Zealand law and how it treats BDSM in this country. The presenter, Chris Gallivan, is a senior lecturer at Canterbury University, who specialises in issues around consent.
The other workshop, by the Dean of Otago University’s law faculty, Mark Henagan, an expert in family and relationship law, will cover the law as it relates to people in non-traditional relationships such as Master/slaves and polyamorous groups. Topics include relationship property and child custody issues..
